Class 1 Driver (Hitchhiker & Boom)

We are currently hiring a Class 1 Driver for Shaw Transport – Lantz.
Reporting to the Logistics Manager, you will be part of the Shaw Transport Lantz Team and will play an integral role in the safe, on-time delivery of our products to customers across Atlantic Canada. In addition to flatbed work, you will learn to operate a range of specialized delivery equipment, including hitchhiker, boom truck, and blower truck. You will keep the Shaw Values (Safety, Integrity, Responsibility, Customer Understanding, Constant Improvement, and Collaboration) front of mind and take pride in delivering an excellent customer experience on every load.
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
· Following commercial transport safety regulations and taking necessary precautions to ensure safe operations on and off the road.
· Transporting concrete and palletized products by flatbed in a safe and efficient manner throughout Atlantic Canada. While most work is within Nova Scotia and New Brunswick, periodic trips to Newfoundland, Quebec or Ontario may be required.
· Learning and safely operating specialized delivery equipment, including hitchhiker (truck-mounted forklift), boom truck and blower truck, as operational needs require.
· Performing pneumatic blower work, including setting up, operating and cleaning up the blower truck and hose to place bulk material accurately and safely at customer sites.
· Complying with legislation including safe operation, carriage of goods, hours of service, occupational health and safety, transportation of goods, and weights and dimensions.
· Completing pre-trip, en-route and post-trip inspections to ensure tractors, trailers and mounted equipment are in good working order.
· Reporting vehicle and equipment defects, accidents, traffic violations or damage.
· Ensuring loads are properly secured and protected from the elements, and inspecting them before, during and after delivery.
· Checking load-related documentation for completeness and accuracy, and maintaining required records, including the driver logbook.
· Assisting with the loading and unloading of products, including at customer job sites.
· Delivering product and proper paperwork in a courteous and timely manner.
· Communicating effectively with dispatch, customers, co-workers and the public.
· Performing other duties as required.
Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities required:
· Safety and Quality focus
· Valid Class 1 Driver's Licence and a clean driver's abstract
· Minimum of two (2) years' Class 1 driving experience; flatbed experience preferred
· Willingness to learn and become proficient in operating hitchhiker, boom truck and blower truck equipment
· Hitchhiker, boom truck (e.g., DOL Class 4 Crane) or blower truck experience or certification
is an asset but not required
· Knowledge of load securement practices and commercial vehicle regulations
· A safety conscious, reliable and positive teamwork attitude
· Strong work ethic, attention to detail and ability to work independently
· Strong interpersonal and customer service skills
· Ability to meet the physical demands of loading, unloading and working outdoors in all weather conditions
· Willingness to participate in our Drug & Alcohol Testing program
· Grade XII or equivalent
· English fluency

· Unionized position (IUOE Local 721B) with hourly rates of $26.60 base tractor, $29.35 hitchhiker and $30.10 boom, increasing to $27.40, $30.15 and $30.90 on January 1, 2027
